The ABC Warrior was an old robot used in a previous war.
History[edit | edit source]
The ABC Warriors were believed all destroyed in "the last war", but could still be collected if they were rendered non-functional. This ABC Warrior eventually ended up in the hands of the legal arms dealer Geiger, and was fifty to sixty years old.
After Geiger was killed by Rico, Rico reprogrammed the Robot to obey his command. Afterwards the Robot was Rico's main muscle and did any necessary heavy combat for him and Dr. Ilsa. When Judge Griffin suggests they reboot the Janus Project and the council refuses, he has the robot kill the council and blames it on Dredd.
Later when Rico no longer needed Griffin he had the robot pull him apart. It is later used in an attempt to kill Judge Hershey and Fergee but only manages to injure Fergee. When its back is turned Fergee manages to hack into the robot and uses it to destroy the Janus Lab and its Rico Clones. It is either destroyed or deactivated after Rico had been killed.
Notes[edit | edit source]
The ABC Warrior is based on the war robot Hammerstein, a character from the strips Ro-Busters, ABC Warriors and Nemesis the Warlock. Though he have the same design, the movie version doesn't have a hammer and his name isn't mentioned. As a tie-in to the film, Pat Mills wrote a three-part strip where Hammerstein and Dredd crossed paths, retconning that Hammerstein had been part of President Booth's robot army at the Battle of Armaggedon; this was later undone by Mills' ABC Warriors: The Volgan War, placing that war in 2083 and outside of Dredd continuity.
