Judge Guthrie is a cyborg Judge in charge of a max-security Iso-Block in the Black Atlantic.

History[]

Judge Guthrie was first introduced in the Judge Dredd arc known as "The Pit" a story about Judge Dredd being sent to oversee and turn around one of the worst performing Sectors in Mega-City One, a place that had long since become a dumping ground for Judges that had screwed up.

The Pit[]

In 2117, Guthrie was working as an undercover agent in Sector 301, also known as "The Pit"[1]. The criminal gang he infiltrated had corrupted some of the judges in the sector, including Guthrie's handler Judge McDade, and when his investigations became too successful she exposed his identity. When Guthrie managed to escape, his handler tried to kill him herself. Guthrie killed her and two other rogue Judges in self-defence, but not knowing who to trust he became a fugitive hiding in the underworld.

Guthrie later broke into Judge Dredd's office in an attempt to explain his situation, Dredd tried to make him turn himself in but Guthrie was not interested and handed him a list of corrupt Judges before escaping from the office. Dredd started to investigate and arrest the Judges on the list, however the remaining corrupt Judges managed to track Guthrie down with the intention of murder. Fortunately, Dredd turned up at the last minute and killed one of the corrupt Judges and arrested Guthrie. Judge Dredd eventually cleared his name, as well as using information from him to arrest several corrupt Judges.[2] Now re-instated as a Judge, Guthrie took part in a final battle against the mob of the Pit alongside Dredd and the other Judges of Sector 301.[3]

Early to Mid 2120s[]

Years later, Judge Guthrie fought in the Second Robot War in which he put up a great resistance against crime lord Nero Narcos' robot army, with help from other Judges and Galen DeMarco.[4] Loyal to Dredd, he served with him on several further cases, including as part of a covert team sent in to infiltrate a Sov gulag to retrieve Mega-City prisoners in 2126.[5]

2127 and Beyond[]

In 2127, Guthrie was severely wounded by a bomb, losing most of his limbs, and was unable to return to normal street duty.[6] He became despondent and asked Judge Giant to help him die, but Giant was able to convince him to live.[7] Guthrie was later fitted with a new cybernetic body, enabling him to return to active duty as a catch-wagon driver, transporting newly-arrested criminals from arrest scenes to holding cells. Although his duties no longer routinely involve investigating crime or making arrests, his body suit is equipped with a variety of weapons systems. He is currently running an off-shore Iso-Block that previously served as the vigilante "House of Pain".[8]
